Kitayamazaki Cliffs

Kitayamazaki Cliffs

At the northern end of Iwate Prefecture on the Sanriku Coast lie the stunning Kitayamazaki Cliffs, a wild and rugged stretch of coastline that runs for almost 8 kilometers. A relentless onslaught of winds and waves from the Pacific Ocean have carved the region into a feast for the eyes, equally as awe-inspiring in sunshine and misty rain. Dramatic cliffs rise 200 meters from the shores, while fantastically shaped rocks and mysterious sea caves nestle within the seafoam. A winding flight of 738 steps descends from the lookout point to the beach at the foot of the staggering cliffs.
