Tatehana Wharf Morning Market

Tatehana Wharf Morning Market

As dawn breaks, the Tatehana Wharf Morning Market comes alive. Over 300 stalls line the 800-meter stretch of Hachinohe Port, selling some of the freshest produce in Aomori Prefecture. With tens of thousands of shoppers every week, the morning market is not only one of the largest in Tohoku, but in all of Japan.

The market hosts a rich variety of goods, from the area’s famed fresh and dried fish, to vegetables, fruits, flowers, sweets, bread, cutlery, antiques and more. Traditional coffee shops and udon noodle restaurants serve up hearty breakfasts for early-morning shoppers against the gorgeous backdrop of Aomori’s Pacific coast.
