Backstreets crisscross in eight directions

Hachinohe Yokocho (Hachinohe Back Alley Areas)

As the sun sets over Hachinohe City, the winding backstreets of this port town come alive with neon lights. Eight back alleys stacked with Japanese pubs and tiny bars make up the area of Hachinohe Yokocho. The lively district has long been the beating heart of the port, for decades welcoming sailors back from long days at sea.

Unlike typical tourist spots, the backstreets give visitors an authentic peek into Japanese nightlight tinged with an air of nostalgia. Like an old black-and-white movie set, smoke curls from yakitori bars, mingling with the neon lights as the sound of laughter tumbles merrily into the clear night air.
